SEATTLE — Kamari Moulton’s career-high 208 rushing yards and two touchdowns powered No. 20 Iowa to a 41-24 victory over Washington on Friday night, marking the Hawkeyes’ first win on the West Coast since the Big Ten’s 2024 expansion.
Iowa’s Dominant Performance
Moulton carried 26 times, averaging 8 yards per attempt, and found the end zone on runs of 56 and 3 yards. Iowa quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski completed 14 of 19 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with tight end DJ Vonnahme for scoring passes of 20 and 27 yards in the second quarter. The Hawkeyes (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) built a 27-0 halftime lead through strong special teams play, including field goals of 51 and 27 yards by Caden Buhr.
The Iowa defense stifled Washington’s ground game, holding the Huskies to minus-3 rushing yards. Iowa recorded six sacks and nine tackles for loss, forcing punts on Washington’s first five drives. The defense held the Huskies to just 14 yards on 18 plays over those initial possessions before allowing a late first-half field goal. Coach Kirk Ferentz praised his team’s resilience despite travel challenges and a short week.

Washington’s Struggles and Adjustments
Washington (3-3, 0-3) managed only 95 total yards in the first half, with quarterback Demond Williams Jr. leaving after taking a hit in the second quarter. Williams did not return for x-rays evaluation, and coach Jedd Fisch had no update postgame. Backup quarterback Elijah Brown entered the game late in the first half and orchestrated a 75-yard third-quarter drive, finishing with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Chris Lawson.
Brown improved to 28 of 39 for 251 yards and three touchdowns overall, suggesting he may be prepared to start if Williams misses additional time. The Huskies’ offense struggled to move the ball against Iowa’s pressure, committing three turnovers and converting just 1 of 10 third-down attempts in the first half. Washington’s only points before halftime came on Tyler Robles’ 30-yard field goal with 1:56 left in the second quarter.
Moulton acknowledged a personal motivation ahead of the game, stating he felt he had a chip on his shoulder following a 27-yard performance against Ohio State the previous week.
