A pipettor is designed to aid and simplify the process of drawing out, containing, and dispensing liquid samples into a pipette. In other words, a pipettor is used to dispense measured volumes of liquid. Using a pipettor can help minimize the risk of contamination and lessen hand fatigue.
How Pipettors Work
Pipettors work by generating a partial vacuum above the chamber that holds the liquid and releasing the vacuum selectively to draw up and dispense the liquid to another container. Some pipettors are able to dispense between 1 and 1000µl. Others on the other hand can dispense more.
Pipettors can also facilitate the accurate and sterile handling of liquid which is why they are often used in analytical chemistry, medical tests, and molecular biology. Pipettors are either manual or electronic, multi-channel or single-channel pipettes. Regardless of type, each provides efficiency when working with different dishes, tubes, or plates.
Hettich introduced its own top of the line pipette controller to complement the productivity and efficiency of a pipettor. The HettJet™ Pipette Controller is a revolutionary laboratory equipment that provides maximum ease and comfort. Other features of the HettJet™ Pipette Controller include:
- Six different adjustable speed settings for dispense and aspiration.
- Electronic brake system to maximize precision and speed.
- LED display that shows dispense and aspiration speeds. It also indicates the device’s remaining battery life.
